The Heinrich Pette Institute – Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology in Hamburg, Germany, is seeking a

Bioinformatician (Genomics)

to join its Next Generation Sequencing team at the next possible date. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with previous experience in genome informatics. Candidates must hold an academic degree (minimally MSc) in bioinformatics or related disciplines (e.g., computer sciences) and should be proficient in programming and/or scripting languages. Experience with biostatistics or mathematical modeling would be a plus. While the ideal candidate will hold a PhD degree, depending on work experience and expertise we may also consider applicants at an earlier stage of their scientific career. Excellent communication skills in either the German or the English language are a principal requirement.

The position will be initially filled for 2 years, but can be extended after successful evaluation. Payment will be commensurate with experience according to public sector collective agreement (TV-AVH).

The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and interdisciplinary team of researchers dedicated to the investigation of human pathogenic viruses and related diseases. PhD student position

In Structural Virology / Mass Spectrometry

The Heinrich Pette Institute – Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology in Hamburg, Germany, invites applications for one PhD student position in the new research group "Dynamics of viral structures" of Dr. Charlotte Uetrecht.

The group studies intracellular functions and interactions of viral proteins. Using advanced mass spectrometric techniques, especially native mass spectrometry, structural information of viral protein complexes is derived in a time-resolved manner.

We are searching for exceptional, highly motivated candidates holding a diploma/master degree experienced in at least one of the necessary disciplines and techniques thereof (structural biology, mass spectrometry or virology). Experience in cell biology, protein purification or proteomics would be an asset. We offer the opportunity to perform cutting-edge research in an extremely stimulating work environment equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

Starting in May 2014 (or later), the position is initially funded for three years with the possibility of extension.
