Antiviral Strategies

The unit Antiviral Strategies is headed by Prof. Joachim Hauber and is investigating the biology of human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV) and Herpes Simplex-Viruses (HSV). In particular, a major research focus is on the comparative and detailed analysis of the posttranscriptional processing of viral and cellular mRNAs (e.g. nucleocytoplasmic transport, stabilization, and translation). Furthermore, novel and advanced therapies for the treatment of virus infections are developed. These include the inhibition of drug- (HAART-)resistant viruses, the development of HIV eradication strategies and the interference with sexual transmission of HIV. The research group combines basic research efforts with clearly translational approaches.
