Program Areas
The complete research budget of the Heinrich Pette Institute (HPI) is derived within a framework of correlative transpositions in interdepartmental program areas. On the basis of the cost unit structure at hand, two scientific program areas have been defined, which, together with the structured organizational units of HPI (departments and project groups) form a super ordinate matrix. This structure assures the demands of an output oriented modus based on a program budget network.
Within the framework of the program area "Molecular Mechanisms of Viral Pathogenesis", the steps of virus replication in lytic and latent infection, virus-host interactions and mechanisms for cell defense are investigated.
At the core of the program area "Innovative Therapeutic Strategies" is the development of innovative strategies for the elimination or deactivation of human pathenogenic viruses. A substantial number of research activities are dedicated to the investigation of the interactivity of viruses with cellular components. A detailed analysis of the research enables the identification of novel prospects for the therapy of viral induced diseases.
