From Genomes to Epigenomes: Viral Playgrounds and Therapeutic Targets

The Heinrich Pette Institute, Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology, is organizing a 2-day international symposium connecting scientific research fields of virology, nuclear structure and epigenetics.  The goal of this interdisciplinary symposium is to enhance the understanding of virus-host interactions and to promote innovative ideas for the development of antiviral therapies.

Talks will cover the cell biology of Hepatitis viruses and the mechanisms leading to viral disease, chronic hepatitis and liver cancer. A major emphasis will be placed on the different nuclear processes of the host cell, including nuclear protein dynamics, apoptosis, gene regulation and epigenetic changes, which impact viral life cycles and disease progression. The role of PML bodies will be discussed, which are targeted by many different viruses during an infection and are prime sites of virus-host interactions.  These talks will give insight into the complexity and precision of viral strategies in manipulating the host cell. Furthermore, different aspects for the development of antiviral strategies and therapies will also be discussed.
