The Microscopy and Image Analysis technology platform uses a variety of electron microscopic techniques such as cryo-, transmission or environmental scanning electron microscopy as well as innovative light and fluorescence microscopy to display virus-infected cells and tissues. Analytical possibilities range from the structural resolution of viral pathogen processes in intact cells and tissues to the in situ display of dynamic molecular interactions between virus components and cellular macromolecules. The technology platform is part of the newly established Structural Biology of Viruses research department and specifically complements the methods and subjects of the structural and systems biology research area of the CSSB department. Since 2009 the NIKON Center of Excellence has been located in this technology platform.
